Iloilo: Sunshine and City Lights

Iloilo is a well-loved place sandwiched between the three great Panay provinces and coastal Guimaras Island. Throughout the years, it has been known for its productive agriculture, refined textile exports, active commerce and of course, the soft gentleness of the Ilonggo accent.

The city was founded in 1571 and later on became the capital of the province in 1688. Although the province, as well as the city, had its ups and downs but it remained on the solid ground of economic growth and steady efforts for progress. Iloilo is known for strong familial ties as well as for the prominent families residing. It is a place heavily dedicated in beautification, fun, good food, regular Tae Bo workouts, night life, love and of course, good music.

When it comes to beauty, Iloilo is a bud in the making. Not a blooming one yet, it can do better. In the near future, it is projected that Iloilo will be a modern and sophisticated abode crafted with tall structures and scenic skylines – especially with the constant constructions going on. Esplanade Iloilo is already one achievement, add in Plazuela Iloilo which is another work of art.

When it comes to fun, malls are no exception. Malls like SM City, Robinson’s Place, and the others offer fun and lively activities for the entertainment-loving soul. When it comes to health promotion activities, regular Tae Bo workouts are available in almost any place in Iloilo – Boardwalk, before it became The Esplanade, was the leader in regular afternoon Tae Bo sessions.

In terms of good food, nothing beats seaside delicacies and Iloilo’s original Lapaz Batchoy. Lapaz Batchoy is a regular luxury. Seaside goodness is exemplary. Ilonggos love early evening Talaba with Sinamak (with San Miguel or RH on the side and few attempts of karaoke). Villa, arrayed with beaches, talabahan, and kawayan bahay kubo’s are undeniably Ilonggo.

When it comes to good music, vibrant night outs and fun altogether, Iloilo has the liveliest night life. Places like Smallville, Paseo de Iloilo are pioneers in giving any individual the time of his or her life. Good bands like Bahaghari and much more have regular gigs in almost every corner in Iloilo. Nonetheless, Ilonggo bands do have its distinct music and “Tukar Ilonggo” sounds.

When it comes to love, no place can spell it better. ILOve ILOve is the best place to be when it comes to enjoyment, comfort, and fun.
