Iloilo: Where to Go, What to Do

It is no coincidence that foreigners are flocking in Iloilo City. They did not randomly appear in the streets while they were on their way to some sophisticated cities. They are here, or should I say, they keep coming back in this little piece of heaven because they have found something special in the City of Love – an endless supply of natural and man-made getaway destinations.

Aside from the fact that Iloilo is just 6 hours away from Boracay Island, the city itself and the province as a whole boast a wide variety of destinations for the people who take traveling into a different level and treats new experience as another feather on their cap. In the city alone, Smallville is a crowd favorite especially to those who are into partying, drinking and dining out. What makes it special aside from it being the nightlife capital of the city is that hotels are everywhere in that are making accommodation problems for non-Iloilo residents a no-brainer.

If being one with the sea while enjoying fresh seafood is your cup of tea, then you don’t need to go far. Though Iloilo City is not a famous place for beaches, it still has a decent array of beach resorts just a few minutes from the main district. Eat seafood dishes to your heart’s content without having to think about the bill because the prices will not make you feel guilty. Breakthrough Restaurant in Villa is, nevertheless, one of the best restaurants in Iloilo City when it comes to amazing seaside goodness. Have a taste of their amazing seafood cuisine that is undeniably Ilonggo.

Nature tripping is always in not only for the natives of Iloilo City but also for foreign nationalities and you can never go wrong with Isla de Gigantes. Literally translated as the Island of Giants, this little piece of paradise is a 4-hourdrive away from Iloilo City and is located in Carles, Iloilo. The Municipality alone is popular for their white sand and breathtaking beaches. Isla de Gigantes is not an exception. It is an untouched island and is the best if you want to be in a quiet place. Although it is a bit far, once you catch a glimpse of it, you will say that every second of the travel is worth it.

Do you like dipping in the water but is not friendly with the beach? Then you can always opt for swimming pools. Iloilo is full of inland and mountain resorts and you can definitely find the one that is in accordance with your taste. Garin Farm (San Joaquin), Melrose Inland Resort (Pototan) and Damires Hills (Janiuay) are just three of the many choices that you have. For the brave, they have Zipline, and for the weak-hearted they have the pool, and other simple activities. But if you want an easy access to a swimming pool just within the city, El Dorado in MO2Westown Hotel is just around the corner. The place offers a good ambience and clean waters within your budget.

Iloilo will not also place last when we talk about natural resources. The province takes pride in its untouched beauty greatly represented by Bulabog Putian National Park located in Dingle, Iloilo. This park does not only have a protected rainforest but also holds a significant record of history during the Spanish Colonization. On the walls of the caves are written messages by revolutionary forces when they used the caves as a temporary shelter. Because the park is well-taken cared of, every where you look is like a picture torn from the pages of a travel magazine.

There is more to this place than you have heard from interviews or you have read from the newspapers and magazines. In order to unravel the treasure, you must pack your bags, get your gears ready and delve into beauty and adventure that is Iloilo.
